The College of Fine Arts presented the annual UTeach Fine Arts Showcase, where the talented UTeach students in art, music, theatre and dance presented visual art displays/exhibits and performances on April. 26, 2018.
Showcase began four years ago when Shaun Lane (B.F.A. Visual Art Studies 2014) and the other Fine Arts Studies Student Advisory Council members met regularly with the intent to develop a stronger community between the disciplines, as well as help advocate for making their educational/professional experiences more meaningful.
“I wanted to show that we as artist educators ARE credible & capable,” Shaun said. “We can DO and TEACH. Also, I believe it is important that educators not lose sight of why they are passionate about what they teach. Creating, making, and sharing their artistic voice is crucial to feeding their soul. Getting caught up in the chaos of student teaching, lesson planning and essay deadlines can take so much out of an artist educator, it is vital to pour back in. And lastly, I saw it as an opportunity for the various artists to show what form of creating they were truly passionate about, not what would get them the best grade or impress their professor. Sometimes those aren’t the same thing.”
